Rosario Nuevo Fossil Exhibition

Hidden in the heart of Oaxaca, Mexico, Museo Geologico de Rosario Nuevo is a cultural and archaeological treasure known for its ancient fossil discoveries, Jurassic-era petrified trees, and deep Mixtec heritage. Located near Tezoatlán de Segura y Luna, this unique destination preserves millions of years of natural history while celebrating the traditions of Oaxaca’s artisan communities.

Founded after the discovery of fossilized trees and prehistoric remains in 1994 by geologist Jorge Jiménez Rentería, Rosario Nuevo became known as the “Jurassic Park of the Mixteca.” The museum showcases fossilized wood, marine fossils, dinosaur-era geological formations, and ancient landscapes that once covered Oaxaca millions of years ago.
