Rosario Nuevo Oaxaca

Nestled in the corazón of Rosario Nuevo, Oaxaca, the Geological Museum has become a beloved destino for visitors from across Mexico—and as far as Colombia and Brazil.

Over two decades ago, geologist Jorge Jiménez Rentería, with the ayuda of the local comunidad, played a pivotal role in discovering fossilized tree trunks that revealed the area’s ancient history as a mar that became a selva millions of years ago. His dedication helped escalate the search and preservation of these remarkable fósiles, setting the foundation for the museum we see today.

Today, the museum showcases dinosaur bones, Jurassic-era skin, theropod footprints, and impressions of ancient plantas. Guided tours along the indoor exhibits and outdoor trails share the historias behind each relic, lovingly maintained by the town’s 100 residents.

Aricio is proud to continue supporting the museum, helping preserve its treasures and the cultural heritage of Rosario Nuevo. The museum has brought recognition to the pueblo. In May, it will celebrate its seventh aniversario—a tribute to the orgullo and heritage of Rosario Nuevo.
